Job Introduction
About Us
The Registration Service plays a pivotal role in key life events for members of our local communities. It provides residents with a service to register births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages and civil partnerships and is offered across seven registration offices in the county of Oxfordshire. The Registration Service team are committed to making a real difference in local people's lives, and to providing the best outcomes for our customers. We are a supportive and inclusive team, and we aim to deliver our service by living the organisation's values: always learning, being kind, acting with integrity, taking responsibility, and daring to do things differently.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate person to join the Oxfordshire Registration Service as a Registration Officer. In this role, you will spend the majority of your time interviewing customers in face-to-face appointments, registering life events (births, deaths, and still-births), and taking Notices of Marriage and Civil Partnership.
This is a very busy and varied role in which you will be meeting customers who have individual needs and circumstances, may display a range of different emotions and who may have complex and challenging situations. It offers the opportunity to provide excellent service and support at important moments in customers’ lives and to ensure that they are able to complete the required procedures within statutory frameworks and timescales. You will work in a fast-paced customer facing environment with back-to-back appointments every 30-45 minutes.
Once the initial training period has been completed, you will also spend time in the Registration Hub, assisting colleagues and customers with complex registration queries. At a later stage you will also be trained to carry out marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.
About you
As a Registration Officer, you will enjoy engaging with members of the public at pivotal times and guiding them through a legal process. You will be able to apply complex regulations and principles and explain them in a way which is readily understandable by the general public. You will be confident in your ICT skills (training will be given in Registration software) and willing to use your initiative in combination with guidance from experienced Registration Officers, to solve problems and achieve the required outcome for customers. You will also need to be flexible as situations and places of work may change at relatively short notice. You will be thorough and careful when carrying out daily checks on certificates and finance records, and you will also be willing to embrace the challenge of managing large groups of people at ceremonies and speaking to audiences of varying sizes.
