Job Introduction
About Us
At Oxfordshire County Council, we are committed to delivering high-quality Adult Social Care services that put people at the heart of everything we do. Our focus is on supporting residents to live independent, safe, and fulfilling lives, using a strengths-based approach that recognises individual abilities, builds resilience, and connects people to their communities. Our Occupational Therapy service is central to this, enabling people to remain safe and independent through practical, person-centred interventions. We work collaboratively across health, social care, and community networks to ensure individuals receive the right support at the right time.
We are proud to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where professional development is encouraged, innovation is welcomed, and high-quality practice is expected. This is an opportunity to join a service that continues to evolve, where your leadership and expertise will play a key role in shaping outcomes for residents across Oxfordshire.
About the Role
As a Practice Supervisor Occupational Therapist, you will combine professional expertise with leadership responsibility, playing a key role in maintaining high standards of occupational therapy practice within Adult Social Care. You will supervise and support a team of practitioners, creating a culture of reflective practice, professional curiosity, and continuous development. Through regular supervision, case discussions, and coaching, you will ensure that interventions are effective, proportionate, and centred on achieving meaningful outcomes for individuals.
Alongside your supervisory responsibilities, you will hold a complex caseload, using your expertise in occupational therapy to deliver strengths-based assessments and interventions. You will apply activity analysis, assistive technology, equipment, and environmental adaptations to support individuals to live as independently as possible within their own homes and communities. A critical element of the role is ensuring the effective management of demand across the service. You will support the prioritisation of referrals, oversee waiting lists, and ensure that work is allocated in a timely, risk-informed way. This includes supporting duty systems, responding to fluctuating demand, and ensuring that individuals receive a responsive service without unnecessary delay.
You will also play a central role in safeguarding, undertaking and overseeing enquiries, chairing Best Interest and strategy meetings, and ensuring that interventions are aligned with statutory responsibilities and delivered in line with key legislation. In addition, you will contribute to quality assurance and service improvement through case audits, performance conversations, and the embedding of best practice across the team. You will support workforce development, including supervision, mentoring, and contributing to recruitment and retention activity.
This is a varied and rewarding role where your ability to balance leadership, clinical expertise, and operational oversight will directly influence both the quality of practice and the experience of the people we support.
About You
You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the HCPC, with significant experience in adult social care and a strong grounding in statutory frameworks.
You will bring a detailed understanding of key legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Mental Health Act 1983, and will be confident applying this in complex and evolving situations. You will have experience of supervising or supporting others and will be confident in developing colleagues’ practice while maintaining high standards and accountability. You will take a thoughtful and supportive approach to leadership, creating an environment where individuals are encouraged to reflect, learn, and deliver high-quality work.
You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, demand-led service, where managing flow is a key part of delivering effective care. You will have experience of prioritising referrals, contributing to or overseeing duty systems, and ensuring that work is allocated in a timely, proportionate, and risk-based way. You will understand the importance of balancing competing pressures while ensuring that people waiting for support are responded to safely and without avoidable delay. You will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply professional judgement in complex situations. Your communication skills will enable you to work effectively with colleagues, partners, and the people we support, including in challenging or sensitive circumstances.
Above all, you will share our commitment to delivering high-quality occupational therapy practice that promotes independence, dignity, and the best possible outcomes for the people of Oxfordshire.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous as this role requires frequent travel.
