Job Introduction
Do you have the skills and passion to make a difference to the learning experience of children and young people with special educational needs?
We would love you to join us!
About Us
The Deaf and Hearing Support (DHS) Team is part of the wider Special Educational Needs Support Services (SENSS) in Oxfordshire. You will join a well-established team that is highly regarded by educational settings and other services and organisations.
Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People work across Oxfordshire and with children and young people from 0 to 25, their families, schools, and settings. The SENSS Deaf and Hearing Support Resource Base at New Marston Primary School in Oxford is part of the continuum of provision offered by the Deaf and Hearing Support Team within Oxfordshire.
About the role
This post is based in the Central (City of Oxford) area team in the SENSS Deaf and Hearing Support Resource Base at New Marston Primary School in Oxford.
An experienced teacher is sought to cover maternity leave for the lead teacher of the specialist provision for deaf children in the SENSS Deaf and Hearing Support Resource Base at New Marston Primary School in Oxford commencing 07 July 2025. The resource base supports children in the school from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 6. The wider SENSS service provides additional specialist support. The post holder leads a resource base team of teachers and support workers and works closely with colleagues from health and other services.
About you
You will be a skilled and experienced teacher with a good knowledge of how children and young people learn and how this can be facilitated in the classroom. You will have a broad and experience-based knowledge of special educational needs and disability. You will also have good people management skills and experience of leading a team.
Ideally you will be a Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People holding the mandatory qualification or be training towards this, but we are also interested to hear from experienced teachers with team management skills.
A clear commitment to inclusive education and an ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team is essential. Many of the children currently supported by the resource base use sign in their communication; knowledge and experience of using BSL and SSE would be an advantage.
You will have excellent communication, organisation and management skills and be creative, resilient, reflective and solution focussed.
