Assistant Officer - Technical Support - Operations

Job Introduction

About us

Working for Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and its Highways teams means being part of a dynamic and supportive environment dedicated to delivering excellent services for our residents. At OCC, we value continuous learning, kindness, equality, integrity, responsibility, and innovation. Our Highways teams play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the county's infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient travel for all. With a focus on collaboration and professional development, we provide our employees with the tools and support needed to excel in their roles and make a meaningful impact in the community.

About the role

As an Administration Support Officer, you will work cooperatively as part of a team to provide efficient and effective administrative support to technical staff within the highway operations teams. You will actively liaise with colleagues to ensure consistent services, streamline practices, provide cross-service cover, and help prevent excessive workload peaks. Developing detailed knowledge, skills, and expertise in highway maintenance and inspection will be crucial to enable the directorate to meet statutory requirements. You will also attend site visits on the public highway across Oxfordshire and work with the team to deliver relevant parts of the Service Plan. Providing support and assistance to team members as required will be an integral part of your role.

To support our organisation, people, and partners, you will use analysis and evidence to inform plans, manage risks appropriately, and apply insight to ensure the delivery of effective services for our local people. You will learn and adapt to deliver positive outcomes in efficient and consistent ways, constructively challenging how services are provided and working together to build on our strengths. Collaborating with Senior Officers, Officers, Members, Communities, and other Partners will be essential, and you will need to build working relationships and effectively communicate professional advice.

About you

Desirable criteria include education to level 2 NVQ or equivalent in a related discipline or experience of working in a relevant local government environment or related industry for a period of 3 years. Experience in highway maintenance and the ability to prepare plans, drawings, and display materials for highway schemes, consultations, and legal notices are also desirable. Basic experience with AutoCAD and experience of inputting and retrieving data from ICT-based record systems and internet/web-based systems are also advantageous but will be taught.

Closing date for applications is the 7th October 2024. We are looking to hold interviews in the week commencing 14th October. Please contact Andrew Vidovic (Andrew.vidovic@oxfordshire.gov.uk) for further information about the role.
