About Us

You will be joining our highly regarded multi-disciplinary Clinical Team led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Together we will strive towards a creative, dynamic, and evidence-based approach that strongly draws on trauma-informed, developmental, and systemic models. As a team we support each other in working in what is an often-complex area, including regular team meetings, supervision spaces, and monthly reflective practice facilitated by a specialist systemic therapist. As a team we will also work closely with the clinical psychology doctoral training at Oxford University developing opportunities for research and service innovation, and supervising trainee placements. 

The Clinical Teams draws on a range of theories and approaches, with a strong value base drawing on systemic and narrative ways of working, alongside attachment and trauma informed theories/practices. This way of working is supported by a team culture which privileges reflection, an alignment with practiced-based evidence and respect for multiple perspectives. The team is multidimensional and vibrant and composed by several Clinical Psychologists, a Counselling psychologist, a Psychiatrist, an Occupational Therapist, Family Therapists, Psychological Practitioners, Assistant Psychologist, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Outdoor therapeutic specialists. The team is led by an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist and effectively supported by an clinical data officer.

 

About the Role

In this specific role, the assistant psychologist will be working with our community family strategy supporting the work with parents and families. This will involve direct work with families as well as providing support to the team. The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will contribute to them team supporting the provision of specialist assessments, formulations and interventions conducted by the Clinical Team. The Clinical Team plays a significant role in facilitating psychological understanding of children, young people an families’ difficulties, and in developing the psychological skills amongst the staff who support them. The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will be required to assist the team in the delivery of psychology consultations, reflective practice groups and staff training. In addition, they will be required to work alongside Clinical Psychologists and multidisciplinary teams to support ongoing therapeutic interventions and, where appropriate, under supervision, to implement and deliver assessments and therapeutic interventions. Furthermore, they will be required to draw upon psychological theory and evidence to contribute to service development through the compilation of psychologically-informed resources and group interventions.

The Assistant Clinical Psychology will undertake clinical administration; participate in audit, service evaluation and/or research, create and edit resources and to undertake teaching and project work under the supervision of qualified Clinical Psychologists. Specific duties will be determined on the basis of skills, experience and operational service requirements, and may therefore vary occasionally as service needs/priorities change.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all relevant County policies and procedures are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies.

 

About you

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Assistant Clinical Psychologist to join our team and play a role in supporting the development and implementation of services. The post is situated within the Children, Young People and Families directorate and would best suit an individual who has experience of working within child and adolescent mental health and/or residential settings, but we are open to people with a psychology degree wanting to develop experience in this area. The role is suited to an individual who can contribute within a team setting, is able to engage and work alongside vulnerable families and young people and can work creatively and independently.

The Assistant post requires someone who is able to draw on their psychological knowledge to develop their therapeutic skills within this environment, and to contribute to psychologically informed resource development. They will be skilled at communicating with both service users and professionals within and outside of the organisation. We are looking for an individual who is competent in the management of data and can support the team in audit and evaluation processes.
