About the Role

  • Job title: Assistant Accountant (Corporate Finance)
  • Responsible to: Senior Planning & Reporting Accountant (Capital)
  • Salary range: £40,476 - £43,693 (G11) (actual salary will be pro rata to contractual duration)
  • Work location: Oxford city centre
  • Hours per week: 37 per week, with flexible working options
  • Contract type: Secondment (for internal candidates) or Temporary contract (until end of December 2025)

The Assistant Accountant (Corporate Finance) will, primarily, support the Senior Planning & Reporting Accountant (Capital) by providing support for the planning and implementation of the council’s Capital & Investment Strategy and, ensuring the Budget & Business Planning Process is well-run. During the year, the position will safeguard that both revenue and capital monitoring aligns to the system and, services can rely on corporate reporting.

About you

You will be that person who is curious and wanting to ensure things are done appropriately and with a valid reason.  You will be excited about the key elements within Finance. Proud to ensure data quality and quantity is insightful and timely; and reporting outcomes drive the organisation’s decisions.

 We are looking for candidates with:

  • Relevant local government finance experiences either supporting corporate finance or finance business partnering.
  • AAT qualified or studying a CCAB qualification.
  • Excellent IT skills including extensive knowledge and ability to use Microsoft applications, especially Excel and its various plug ins as well as power applications.
  • A team player who will pull together to get things done on a timely basis.
  • Great communication skills and positive, pro-active approach with the ability to collaborate and influence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant experience in Local Government 
  • Relevant experience of using SAP
